Medical/Surgical Wing Grant in Honor of Lewis County General Hospital Physician

 

The Lewis County Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that the Dyson Foundation has made a generous grant in honor of Dr. Elwin Stillman to support the renovation and new construction of the Medical/Surgical Wing at Lewis County General Hospital.

Dr. Stillman provided 37 years of outstanding medical service as a general practitioner at Lewis County General Hospital, retiring in 2014.  Dr. Stillman received his medical degree from SUNY Brooklyn and completed his Family Practice Residency at SUNY Upstate Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Medical Center.  Dr. Stillman began as a Family Practice Physician at LCGH in August 1977.  He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice since 1986 and was certified in Geriatric Medicine. 

During his medical career Dr. Stillman was an active, highly respected, and valued member of the volunteer clinical faculty, most notably in the Rural Medicine Education Program for 27 years.  He was a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Practice (1980-1990) and has been a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice at SUNY Health Science Center from 1990 to present.  He was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the New York State Medical Society, the Lewis County Medical Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.  Throughout his career Dr. Stillman served in many hospital positions including President and Vice President of the Medical Staff and the Chief of Family Practice Service.

 In his retirement Dr. Stillman enjoys beekeeping, a hobby of his for the past 67 years.  He is a Master Beekeeper and teaches a conference for beekeepers at Cooperative Extension.  He is also a member of the Lowville Baptist Church and serves on the Board of Trustees.  He grows orchards, a passion of his for 49 years, and spends time with his wife Pam hunting turkeys and fishing for trout. 

 Dr. Stillman and his wife Pam reside in Lowville and have two children Joy and Philip and six grandchildren.
